Google Adds Real-Time Voice Translation to Gboard

Gboard google play featured

Google has been on a tear lately when it comes to adding new features to Gboard. Just recently the company rolled out smart completion across just about every Android app.

Now, Google is pushing out a new feature that adds real-time voice translation to Gboard. That means you can speak to your phone in one language and have your message sent in another.

How to Use the New Gboard Voice Translation Feature

As reported by Android Police, Google is combining two of the most useful features of Gboard—dictation and translation. Both have existed within Gboard for some time, but they have never worked together. With the latest update, you can speak what you want to say to your phone in one language, have it translated in real-time, and then send a message in the translated language.

To take advantage of the new feature, you need to launch the translation feature that already existed within Gboard. Once open, you’ll see a microphone on the right side of the screen. Tap the microphone and start speaking in the language you want to translate from. You’ll see the result of the translation in the top window, and the original text in the bottom one.

It’s definitely easy to use and it seems to do a pretty good job, especially considering the amount of work Google is doing in the background to dictate and translate the text at the same time.

Gboard Voice Translation Availability

Google said that the Gboard voice translation feature is available to all users now. However, some people are reporting that they still aren’t seeing the microphone feature. It’s a change that needs to happen on Google’s side, so it may just take a little time before everyone has access.
